Safe Sleep: what every family should know
We recently spoke with Ainhoa, a pediatric nurse specialized in baby sleep, about the keys to safe and peaceful rest. Here’s a summary of the most important things every family should know:
What is SIDS and how can you prevent it?
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is rare, but it's a common concern during the first months of life. These measures help reduce the risk:
- Always place baby on their back to sleep
- Use a firm mattress with no loose items
- No blankets, pillows or sheets
- Use a sleeping bag instead of blankets (like the ones from molis&co!)
- Choose the right TOG to avoid overheating
And what about head shape?
Plagiocephaly (flat head syndrome) can be prevented with small everyday habits:
- Alternate the baby’s head position while sleeping
- Encourage tummy time
- Avoid prolonged use of bouncers or baby seats
- Use ergonomic baby carriers that distribute pressure evenly
What is positional asphyxia?
It can occur in everyday situations such as:
- Falling asleep in a car seat without supervision
- Sleeping surrounded by pillows or cushions
- Babywearing in an incorrect position
The golden rule:
If your baby is asleep, always place them on a flat, safe and clear surface.
At molis&co, we believe that caring also means informing.
We hope these tips support you in your daily life – and help you sleep a little more peacefully and safely
